Yared Abera Deme is a Research Analyst with the International Climate Action team under WRI Africa office. In his role, he provides research, outreach, coordination, and analytical support on issues relating to the UNFCCC, the Paris Agreement, and its implementation. His work is focused on supporting the annual Conference of Parties (COP), Climate negotiations with the attention to issues related to Loss and Damage, Climate Finance, and Adaptation.

Prior to joining the WRI, Yared was an independent consultant and led a youth organization he founded called The Youth Print. He has interned at the then Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change of Ethiopia at the Multilateral Environmental Agreements Directorate. Yared is an active and prominent youth climate activist in Ethiopia as well on the continent. Yared represented his country as an official Youth Delegate for the 74th session of the UN General Assembly and at the 23rd, 24th, 25th, and 26th sessions of the Conference of Parties (COP 23, COP 24, COP 25, and COP 26) to UNFCCC as a climate negotiator.

Yared holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Addis Ababa University. Currently, Yared is also finalizing his master’s in Peace and Security Studies at Institute of Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), Addis Ababa University.

When sparing some time from his tight schedules, he enjoys traveling, swimming, riding a horse, meeting new people, and having a conversation with Senior Citizens.
