In the fight against climate change, most of the world’s attention has focused on ways to reduce emissions as quickly as possible. These efforts remain critically important; however, the latest climate science shows that to avoid dangerous levels of global warming we must couple the rapid shift to a low carbon economy with efforts to capture and store some of the carbon we’ve already put into the atmosphere.

In this video, Gretchen Ellison, Research Analyst at World Resources Institute, gives an overview of why carbon removal is needed and how it works.

WRI has published a series of working papers, entitled CarbonShot: Creating Options for Carbon Removal at Scale in the United States, which explores the challenges and opportunities to using carbon removal to help combat climate change and offers practical steps U.S. policymakers can consider to spur action.
